Artist’s Profile

Alan Gaynor is an award-winning photographer and accomplished architect whose work explores architecture, light, structure, and space. Drawing inspiration from his local and international travels, he creates meticulously composed images that reveal the rhythm, geometry, and quiet monumentality of the built environment.

His photographic series include Cityscapes, which examines skyscrapers as layered structures of concrete, steel, and glass; Subways, a series of large-format black-and-white photographs focused on the architecture of the New York City subway system; and bodies of work created in India and Morocco that reflect his longstanding interest in architecture and the manmade environment.

In his deeply personal Flowers series, Gaynor uses fading and dying flowers as metaphors for life, loss, and mortality following the death of his wife. Throughout the series, he brings an architect’s sensitivity to proportion, form, and rhythm. The project reaffirmed his belief in the power of art in our lives.  www.AlanGaynor.net
