Hiromi Aoki
Artist Bio
HIROMI AOKI is a pointillist artist based in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan.
Growing up in a difficult home environment, she began creating pointillist drawings at the age of 19 as a way to escape emotional pain. This formative experience laid the foundation for her unique visual language—one that blends delicacy with inner strength.
Using primarily a 0.3mm pen, she creates intricate works composed of tens of thousands of dots. For Aoki, drawing is like an extension of her body—an expression of unspoken emotions and inner states. Pointillism serves as her personal form of prayer, capturing quietude and resilient vitality.
Her works have been exhibited both in Japan and internationally, including in the United States and the United Kingdom. She has shown at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hōryū-ji Temple and at galleries in New York. In August 2025, she signed a full agency representation contract with Viridian Artists in New York.
Her quietly resonant works continue to cross borders, gently offering comfort to those carrying unseen emotional wounds.

Artist Statement
I grew up with a father who was addicted to gambling. From a young age, my home environment was unstable and filled with pain, and I turned to drawing as a way to escape.
The time I spent drawing was the only moment when I truly felt at peace.
Since then, art has become an extension of my emotions.
Even when my brother was suffering from mental illness and in and out of the hospital, or when I was struggling with an eating disorder, drawing always saved me.
In May 2021, I happened to show one of my works to a friend.
He said, “I don’t know why, but tears just started flowing,” and for the first time, I shared the feelings I had been carrying while creating my art.
He encouraged me, saying, “More people need to see this!”
That moment became the turning point for starting my journey as a pointillist artist.
I had always feared exposing myself, but with the support and encouragement of my friends, I was able to take my first step.
At my first solo exhibition in November of that year, many visitors told me how deeply my work moved them.
I decided to continue as an artist, thinking, “If my art can be a source of comfort for someone, I want to keep creating.”
My second solo exhibition, held in October 2022, caught the attention of a newspaper and welcomed over 200 visitors.
Many elderly guests with mobility challenges came to see the show.
Several of them shed tears in front of my work and left with smiles.
Witnessing that, I became convinced that my art has the power to heal people’s hearts.
Since then, I have continued to hold solo exhibitions—five in total between November 2021 and today.
Over 600 people have attended my shows so far.
For each exhibition, I launched a crowdfunding campaign, receiving generous support totaling ¥5,243,500 across five campaigns.
In 2023, after meeting patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa and ALS, I began advocacy and support activities for people with rare diseases.
I also served for two years as a caregiver for Mr. Masatane Muto, an ALS patient and creative professional.
After watching a documentary about his life and artistic journey, I felt deeply compelled to support him.
In April 2025, I exhibited my work in New York and witnessed the moment it resonated with people across cultural boundaries.
It became a truly irreplaceable experience in my artistic life.
Having once carried deep emotional wounds myself, I now hope to be a source of support for those who live with pain.
Through my art and advocacy for rare diseases, I believe it is my mission to help expand a "kind world."
And I will continue to create—to quietly grow that world of kindness.
