Michael Reck

Artist Statement

Michael Reck creates abstract paintings that explore pattern, movement, repetition, and the tension between order and chance. Working primarily with acrylic on panel, he builds compositions from layered and gestural marks, often combining geometric structures with dripping, irregular brushwork.

His paintings suggest systems that are simultaneously organized and unstable. Grids, matrices, repeated forms, and contrasting black, white, and gray marks create a visual language in which structure begins to break apart. The resulting works invite close observation, allowing details and relationships to emerge gradually.

Titles such as All We Know, Fall and Rise, Fecund, Midstream, Spawn, and Surmountable Odds introduce suggestive ideas without prescribing a single interpretation. Reck’s work balances abstraction with implication, creating paintings that are open-ended, energetic, and contemplative.
