Artist Statement

My work explores the geometry of space, the intensity of color, and the shifting nature of memory. Drawing from landscapes, cityscapes, and architectural environments, I translate familiar and unfamiliar places into abstracted forms. Fragmented compositions, vibrant colors, and sculptural shapes reconstruct moments and spaces from memory, reflecting how we experience and interpret our surroundings.

My background in architectural design deeply informs my practice. Elements such as columns, windows, brick patterns, and geometric forms appear throughout my work, creating spaces that feel both recognizable and unfamiliar. By combining fragments from different environments and perspectives, I explore how places become embedded in personal memory.

Ultimately, my work considers how we navigate, remember, and reinterpret the spaces around us. Through abstraction, I invite viewers to reflect on their own spatial memories and the ways in which place becomes personal. www.MinJinKook.com

Biography

Min Jin Kook is a New York–based artist, architect, and designer whose work explores the relationship between space, memory, and perception. She holds a Master of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University at Buffalo.

Kook’s architectural background strongly influences her artistic practice, where landscapes, cityscapes, and architectural elements are transformed into abstract paintings and sculptural forms. Her work has been exhibited at the AIA New York / Center for Architecture and the RISD Museum, and her architectural work has been featured by ArchDaily, World Architecture Community, and Rethinking the Future.

Her work has received recognition through international architecture and design awards, including the Interior Design Award, Arch Design Awards, Titan Property Awards, London Design Awards, and C-IDEA Award. Kook currently lives and works in New York.
