Artist Statement

Sue Rollins’ paintings and prints explore interior and exterior landscapes, moving between the observed world and imagined spaces. Her work considers landscape not simply as a physical place, but as a reflection of memory, emotion, perception, and experience.

Working across painting and printmaking, Rollins uses color, form, and layered imagery to create atmospheric compositions that suggest places that are both familiar and uncertain. Her landscapes often exist between abstraction and representation, inviting viewers to consider how a place can be experienced internally as well as visually.

Influenced by her studies with abstract expressionist Hiram Williams and printmaker Ken Kerslake, Rollins combines an interest in expressive mark-making with an appreciation for the possibilities of print and color. Her work continues to explore the shifting relationship between the real and imagined landscape.
