Artist Bio
Landscapes where architecture and nature meet — moments of light, shadow, and texture that invite you to pause. Based in Western Massachusetts, Sue Fontaine's work explores the quiet dialogue between human presence and the natural world, offering a glimpse of belonging, change, and the beauty woven into everyday life.
Sue is drawn to the quiet pull of abandoned landscapes — narrow streets worn by time, familiar landmarks, overlooked spaces. These places, often passed by without notice, hold their own quiet stories. Working primarily in acrylic, she weaves in other materials to create layered, tactile surfaces.
In Sue's earlier work, fabric brought a raised relief to the image. Over time, this evolved into more subtle textures with paper and graphite drawings. These elements become the topography of the painting — ridges, valleys, and traces that shift the imagery as light moves across the surface. Through this layering, She hopes to inspire a renewed connection to the local — to the beauty found in the spaces we inhabit, yet so often overlook.
